Valhalla, N.Y. – The Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) at New York Medical College and the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) have announced a new agreement that will guarantee admissions interviews for GSBMS master’s students or graduates who wish to apply to TouroCOM’s Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) programs.

Valhalla, New York – New York Medical College’s (NYMC) Center for Disaster Medicine conducted an eight-hour mass casualty triage training course with staff at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y. Elected officials, including New York State Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart Cousins, came to show their support and speak about the necessity of this training in order to provide mass casualty victims the best possible care.

Valhalla, NY, – New York Medical College (NYMC) announced today that Robert W. Amler M.D., M.B.A., dean of NYMC’s School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs, has received the national 2018 Edwin Crawford Award for Innovation. Dr. Amler is being honored for his advocacy and leadership at NYMC and elevating the College’s profile among New York legislators.

Valhalla, NY - New York Medical College has been awarded $246,000 in federal funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct research aimed at developing a new cure for the tick-borne disease Babesia microti. Endemic to the north eastern region of the Unites States and prevalent in the Hudson Valley, Babesia microti has been identified as a major public health threat by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ (NIAID) Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation Research. The NIAID, which is one of the 27 institutes and centers that comprise the NIH, is mandated with responding to emerging public health threats.

Valhalla, New York – New York Medical College (NYMC) will host a free community lecture on Tuesday, November 20 at the Mount Pleasant Public Library. The upcoming lecture will examine different aspects of breast health. The lecture is part of the “Meet the Doctors” series which hosts quarterly events on health-related topics of interest to the community. The series provides a venue for area residents to hear from health care professionals on subjects ranging from Zika, concussions, Autism, family caregiving and the effects of substance abuse in minors. ‌‌ The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.

Valhalla, NY, – November 9, 2018 – Jennifer Riekert, M.B.A., vice president of communications and strategic initiatives at New York Medical College (NYMC), has been named as one of Westchester's top female leaders by 914 Inc. magazine. In the realm of higher education, in which senior leadership is still closely tied to age and tenure, Ms. Riekert earned a seat at the table among the College’s senior leaders before the age of 40. As NYMC’s first female vice president of strategic initiatives, Ms. Riekert’s key accomplishments include spearheading the College’s first cohesive brand identity, auditing and re-creating NYMC’s entire portfolio of marketing materials, transforming the college’s web presence and launching New York State’s first new dental school in 50 years.

Valhalla, NY, – Today, New York Medical College (NYMC) announced it will launch a newly created Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Sciences (CLS) program, offered by the Graduate School of Basic Medical Science (GSBMS), making NYMC one of only three colleges in New York State to offer this unique Master’s degree. The two-year, 41.5 credit program, which will be housed in the Department of Pathology, will position students for future employment in highly paid health care fields.

Valhalla, N.Y., – Effective immediately, the Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences (GSBMS) at New York Medical College (NYMC) will no longer require applicants to provide scores for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) as an admission requirement for its Ph.D. programs. In recent years, the utility of the GRE as an admission criterion and a predictive metric of success in graduate school has come under scrutiny. Multiple studies suggest that the GRE is not a reliable predictor of student success and doesn’t effectively measure advanced quantitative skills. Additionally, the cost of preparing for the GRE, the cost of the test itself and the associated score reports, and the cost of travel to test sites are disadvantageous to students of low and modest economic means, and to students from rural and/or remote geographic areas.

Valhalla, NY, – The Center for Disaster Medicine, housed at New York Medical College (NYMC), is hosting a symposium on November 13^th, bringing together experts to share how to prepare for various mass casualty events. First responders, law enforcement, healthcare businesses and the community are invited to RSVP and hear from specialists on first hand experiences and how to approach various mass casualty situations.
