VALHALLA, NY – The 2019 National Public Health Week at the New York Medical College (NYMC) kicks off on Monday, April 1st, with a series of presentations throughout the week focused on “Discovering Public Health.” National Public Health Week is celebrated the first week of April as a time to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our nation's health.

New York Medical College has the only accredited public health program in Westchester County and offers Master of Public Health degrees in four areas, a Master of Science in Biostatistics, and a Doctor of Public Health degree.

Schedule for the week is below:

  • Monday, April 1: James O’Brien, the Former Vice Dean of Public Health and Professor Emeritus, will give a historical account of the school’s remarkable and unforgettable contribution to public health, “The History of Public Health at New York Medical College.” The presentation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in auditorium, GN-F15.
  • Wednesday, April 3: Carol Levine, M.A. will be presenting “Family Caregivers in an Aging Society: A Public Health Priority,” from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in room 407. Levine, the award winner for the Friends of the National Library of Medicine Donald A.B. Lindberg Distinguished Health Communications Award, will show how important the caregiver’s role is within United States healthcare.
  • Wednesday, April 3: A State of Public Health Panel Discussion with the School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences and Practice and Touro College of Dental Medicine from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in room 407.
  • Thursday, April 4: NYMC will host, “Discovering Public Health: A Roundtable Discussion” with Alumni and Students from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Dining Room. This will be an interactive day as guests will discuss, with alumni and county officials, the future and the myriad of available positions within the various disciples of public health.
