Located in the department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, a Molecular Dynamics Storm 860 phosphorimager is used for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins, nucleic acids and other biological materials that are either radioactive or fluorescent, or reactive with radioactive fluorescent probes. This instrument has a range of 5 orders of magnitude and can detect radioactive signals using a phosphorimager screen with a 5- to 10-fold greater sensitivity than film-based radiographic techniques. It also has two different fluorescent modes enabling double-label techniques to be used.
Instruction on the use of the instrument and information to guide the choice of fluorescent probes are available. Data analysis can be performed on a workstation computer. Instrument time is scheduled and individuals are responsible for providing their own screens and reagents.
