An Economic View of Health Care Reform

October 1, 2013 - January 31, 2014

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the economic dimensions surrounding the evolution of health care reform and its implications in our lives. We will begin with an historical overview of the obstacles to reform over the past century and go on to cover the fundamentals of health economic analysis including the supply and demand for goods and services, consumer behavior, and the potential impact and limitations of reform on costs, access, quality and disparities in health and health care. Insightful readings by economists, political scientists, healthcare journalists and policymakers, along with numerous resources such as websites, blogs and archived reports, will provide a deeper understanding of the issues. Additionally, the course will include an online forum where participants can exchange ideas and live chats with the instructors.
