NYMC Receives $2.7 Million HECap Award
NYMC is One of 32 Colleges and Universities Across New York State to Receive Funding from HECap Matching Grant Program

New York Medical College (NYMC) has been awarded $2.7 million through New York State's Higher Education Capital (HECap) Matching Grant Program, making it one of just 32 private, not-for-profit colleges and universities selected to receive funding. The competitive grant program supports critical capital improvements that strengthen academic, research, and workforce development initiatives across the state.
The funded projects are critical infrastructure improvements and enhancements including the time-sensitive replacement of the roof of the Basic Sciences Building (BSB), infrastructure for the Touro College of Dental Medicine TouroCAREs—The Center for Access, Respect, and Empathy—and the expansion of the Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) to ensure students, faculty, and researchers have safe, modern facilities that support excellence in education, scientific discovery, and patient care. The BSB is central to NYMC’s educational and research mission, and the roof is a vital structure that protects more than 50 long-term biomedical investigations. TouroCAREs, a specialized oral health care clinic, will provide critical and complex dental and operative care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities along with other compounding medical conditions and require special care. The funding will also help support the CDM to increase vital hands-on training for patient assessment and medical management of a complex variety of medical and surgical conditions in emergency and disaster settings, including mass violence and austere environments.

This funding enables us to continue advancing innovative education and training that prepares health professionals for the challenges of tomorrow."
HECap awards support projects that provide increased training in the health sciences through the construction of new laboratory and research spaces, the purchase of new instructional technologies and medical equipment as well as a variety of other capital investments and improvements. Campuses that receive grants are required to invest at least $3 of their own funds for every $1 of state funds received.
