The School of Health Sciences and Practice (SHSP) proudly hosted its inaugural Careers in Bloom event, welcoming 13 local sites to the NYMC campus, including Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, White Plains Hospital, Union Community Health Center, and more. NYMC alumni representing some of these organizations were also in attendance, adding a meaningful full-circle element to the event.

Originally launched last year solely for SLP students, the event has grown to include the physical therapy and public health programs, making it the first SHSP career event to unite all programs.

“This is a wonderful event, it’s great to see students and faculty from all programs come together,” said Amy Ansehl, M.S.N., D.N.P., RN, FNP-BC, senior associate dean for student experience for SHSP, associate professor of public health, and director of applied practice experience.

Students rotated between sites in 10-minute intervals, allowing them to connect with all organizations relevant to their field. This format allowed them to ask questions, share their resumes, and explore career opportunities ahead of graduation.

Students appreciated the chance to engage with potential employers. “Everyone here is very welcoming and informative,” said Julia Z., D.P.T. Class of 2026. “It really shows how important it is to put yourself out there, talk to others, and network.” Andre A., D.P.T. Class of 2026 added, “I learned so much, and without this event, I likely wouldn’t have been able to connect with these organizations on the same level.”

Remarks were delivered by Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the SHSP and vice president for government affairs, followed by continued networking and conversation.

The success of this inaugural event not only offered students unique networking opportunities but also established a foundation for future events that continue to support professional growth and career readiness.
