The 33rd Annual Faculty Author Celebration and Awards recognized 378 NYMC faculty authors for their 797 scholarly publications in 2025, including five books, 23 book chapters, 104 conference abstracts, and 665 journal articles.

The breadth and impact of NYMC faculty scholarship were on full display at the 33rd Annual Faculty Author Celebration and Awards on October 8. Organized by the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library in collaboration with the Office of the Chancellor and the Office of the Vice President for Research, the event honored 378 faculty authors whose research, publications, and academic contributions helped shape the scientific and medical literature in 2025.

Collectively, faculty produced an impressive 797 scholarly works, including five authored or edited books, 23 book chapters, 104 conference abstracts, and 665 journal articles. The full 2025 Faculty Bibliography is available online and in print upon request.

Reflecting on the year's scholarly achievements, Marie T. Ascher, M.S., M.P.H., fourth from right, the Lillian Hetrick Huber Endowed Director of the Phillip Capozzi, M.D., Library, highlighted the real-world significance of the research being recognized.

“This year's top-cited, most-mentioned, and high-impact papers have a running theme: Does an intervention that appears to be promising actually improve the outcomes that matter most to patients? Together, these published trials provide evidence that helps clinicians make better-informed decisions about treatment effectiveness, risk, and patient selection,” said Ascher.

That impact extends far beyond the pages of academic journals, noted Salomon Amar, D.D.S., Ph.D., vice president for research and professor of pharmacology and pathology, microbiology and immunology at NYMC and senior vice president for research affairs at Touro University, who emphasized the downstream effect faculty scholarship has on learners, clinicians, and patients.

“Your work matters beyond this world,” said Dr. Amar. “Somewhere, a resident is reading your paper at night. I read them after midnight. A student is citing your manuscript. A patient is receiving new care as a result of that work, and they’re doing better because of something you discovered and had the courage to publish.”

Building on that message, Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., fifth from left, chancellor and chief executive officer, underscored the responsibility of academic medicine to preserve and advance scientific inquiry for future generations.

“We must continue to do science, and write, and publish. And we must insist that our trainees critically engage with those texts because there is far too much at stake to give up this fight. Our work must not only survive, it must prevail, because the future depends on it,” said Dr. Halperin.

Honorees were recognized across multiple categories, highlighting publications that achieved significant engagement, broad dissemination, and meaningful influence within their fields. These proprietary, curated resources are available through the library.
