New York Medical College (NYMC) in Valhalla, New York, and Hudson Regional Health (HRH) in Hudson County, New Jersey, have formed a new academic affiliation, designating HRH as a teaching site for the training and education of NYMC’s medical students. NYMC will also assume sponsorship of HRH’s current residency and fellowship programs.

“Exposing our students to a wide range of clinical environments is essential to their development as compassionate, capable physicians,” said Neil W. Schluger, M.D., dean of the NYMC School of Medicine. “Equally important is ensuring that our residents and fellows train in settings that challenge and inspire them as they advance in their specialties. The addition of HRH to our network further broadens these opportunities, offering rich and varied experiences across multiple communities in New Jersey. We are pleased to welcome HRH as a partner and look forward to the meaningful impact this collaboration will have on our learners’ education and training and on the patients they will ultimately serve.”

This partnership with NYMC will support HRH's goal to become one of the largest sponsors of graduate medical education, not just in Hudson County but throughout the State of New Jersey. It also enhances NYMC’s extensive network of affiliated hospitals and clinical sites that encompasses more than 30 affiliates, now across eight states—New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Arizona, and Florida.

Formed earlier this year, HRH is a network of four New Jersey hospitals: Bayonne University Hospital, Hoboken University Hospital, Heights University Hospital in Jersey City, and Secaucus University Hospital. Bayonne University Hospital and Secaucus University Hospital recently received designations as university-affiliated teaching hospitals, joining the Hoboken and Jersey City facilities. HRH has actively grown and expanded its graduate medical education offerings, preparing medical students, residents, and fellows with the latest teaching modalities and technology, continuing its long-standing commitment to medical education.

The agreement will establish various clerkships, sub-internships, and electives at the four hospitals for NYMC medical students in the near future. In addition, NYMC will assume sponsorship of HRH’s residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, and surgery, a transitional year residency program, and a fellowship program in gastroenterology. HRH and NYMC will also explore and partner in developing multiple residency programs in a variety of needed specialties throughout Hudson County and the State of New Jersey.

“I’m extremely pleased that Hudson Regional Health continues to be a state-wide leader in providing exceptional healthcare training for our students, with all four hospitals now set up as university-affiliated teaching facilities,” said  Nizar Kifaieh, M.D., CEO of Hudson Regional Health. “Our doctors and healthcare professionals are second to none, and this new partnership with NYMC will ensure that Hudson County and the tri-state area continue to benefit from a pipeline of exceptional physicians with the best possible education in the years to come.”
