William Moore, M.D., to Lead Department of Radiology
Dr. Moore is an Accomplished Radiologist and Nationally Recognized Leader in Thoracic Imaging, Informatics, and Minimally Invasive Treatment of Lung Disease
William H. Moore, M.D., FACR, an accomplished radiologist and nationally recognized leader in thoracic imaging, informatics, and minimally invasive treatment of lung disease, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Radiology at New York Medical College (NYMC) and Chair of the Department of Radiology at Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). Dr. Moore will assume his new roles on February 1, 2027.
Dr. Moore joins NYMC and WMCHealth from NYU Langone Health, where he serves as professor of radiology and vice chair of informatics in the Department of Radiology. In that role, he has helped advance and integrate imaging operations across a large, complex health system, supporting greater consistency, collaboration, and access to radiology services. He previously served as section chief of thoracic imaging and has held numerous academic and administrative leadership positions for more than two decades in academic radiology.
“Dr. Moore brings an exceptional combination of clinical expertise, academic leadership, technological innovation, and commitment to education that will position our Department of Radiology for continued growth and excellence,” said Neil W. Schluger, M.D., dean of the NYMC School of Medicine. “His experience using informatics and emerging technologies to improve patient care and operational performance, coupled with his dedication to educating and mentoring the next generation of physicians, makes him an outstanding choice to lead the department. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Zvi Lefkovitz for his many years of leadership as chair and to Dr. Hasit Mehta for his dedicated service as interim chair and for ensuring continuity during this important transition.”
“Every patient deserves timely answers and confidence in their care,” said Peter Paige, M.D., M.M.M., CPE, FACEP, executive vice president and chief clinical officer of WMCHealth. “Dr. Moore’s expertise in advanced imaging, minimally invasive treatment, and emerging technologies will help us diagnose disease more precisely and guide patients to the right care sooner. His experience integrating services across a complex health system, together with his strong track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional faculty, will be instrumental as we strengthen radiology services across WMCHealth. We are pleased to welcome him to the Network and look forward to the impact his leadership will have on our patients and care teams.”
An expert in thoracic imaging and intervention, Dr. Moore specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the chest, particularly lung cancer. His clinical work includes image-guided biopsies and minimally invasive therapies, including lung ablation. Under his leadership at NYU Langone, the thoracic imaging section grew to approximately two dozen faculty members and built a strong, collaborative team that managed a clinical volume of more than 400 CT examinations and 1,000 chest X-rays each day. He also helped expand lung biopsy services and establish a lung ablation program.
A central focus of Dr. Moore’s career has been the integration of technology, data, and clinical medicine. As vice chair of informatics at NYU Langone, he has led major technology implementations and system integrations and has been involved in the expansion and integration of imaging operations across a large and complex health system. His work in computational science includes computer-aided diagnostics, systems integration, and the application of artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy, workflow, and operational efficiency.
Dr. Moore is also an active researcher whose work spans clinical intervention and computational science. His research has focused on minimally invasive approaches to treating lung malignancies and chronic pain, including innovations in cryoablation and cryoneurolysis, as well as low-dose computed tomography (CT), computer diagnostics, and systems integration. His teams have participated in NIH- and industry-supported research and have investigated emerging technologies, including pulsed electrical field ablation for lung cancer.
Before joining NYU Langone, Dr. Moore served as vice chair of education and radiology residency program director at Stony Brook Medicine, where he oversaw graduate medical education activities in radiology. He has mentored numerous medical students and residents and received multiple teaching honors during his tenure at Stony Brook.
The national search for the new Radiology chair was led by Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor and chief executive officer of NYMC, and Dr. Peter Paige, who served as co-chairs of the search committee. The committee included representatives from NYMC and WMCHealth.
Dr. Moore earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Stony Brook Medicine. He subsequently completed advanced training in thoracic imaging at NYU and informatics at Stony Brook University. He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology and was named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 2025.
