I. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish design and usage standards for New York Medical College’s (“NYMC” or the “College”) signage, including donor recognition signage, in public spaces and common areas of campus to ensure consistent design and placement and adherence to the current New York Medical College Brand and Style Guide.
II. Policy
It is the policy of NYMC that all new Signage, both interior and exterior, excluding nameplates for offices, be approved by the Office of Public Relations to maintain a unified appearance across all facilities. To ensure compliance with these standards, all Signage must be produced by an approved vendor and installed under the direction of the Office of Facilities Management.
Donor recognition Signage must be coordinated with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations in accordance with the donor agreement and receive final approval from the Office of Public Relations prior to production and installation. Donors may not dictate designs, logos, or symbols.
III. Definitions
- Signage: Any permanent or semi-permanent physical display used as a long-term communication tool to convey institutional information. Permanent or semi-permanent installations refer to objects that are professionally designed and installed to withstand regular use and environmental conditions, serving both a functional, aesthetic, and consistent purpose over time

- Exterior building location identifiers or directional plaques, lettering, maps, pylons, monument markers, etc.
- Interior building location identifiers or directional plaques, lettering, maps, pylons, monument markers, etc.
- Regulatory and safety signs
- Banners (large format displays typically used for announcing events, promotions, or College branding).
- Flags, typically bearing a design, emblem, or logo used to identify or represent a group, organization, or cause. Flags may be displayed indoors or outdoors on poles, stands, or stakes

IV. Design Standards
- Room Wall Lettering:

- Title case: First letter capitalized, followed by lowercase
- Gotham font
- Size: proportionate to space (.25”–.5” thickness)
- Material: brushed aluminum

- Interior Donor Plaques and Wall Lettering:

- Material: brushed metal
- Preferred plaque size: 10”W x 10”H (may vary by space)
- Maroon horizontal NYMC logo (~7”W x 1”H) at bottom
- Fonts: Donor names – Gotham Book (~55 pt); all other copy – Gotham Book (~35 pt)
- Colors: Black font on brushed metal background; PMS 202C logo and frame

- Recommended Wording for Donor Plaques:
The [ROOM NAME] was made possible through the generosity of [DONOR NAME]. Dedicated [DATE].

The [ROOM NAME] was funded by [DONOR NAME]. Dedicated [DATE].
- All donor recognitions, including plaques, walls, and Signage, must comply with the NYMC Brand and Style Guide and must be reviewed by the appropriate campus offices prior to production.
- Any donor recognition that includes the name of the College must use the full and proper name: New York Medical College.
Note: Signage and plaques installed prior to the implementation of this policy may not conform to current standards and will be updated at the discretion of the Office of Public Relations.
V. Procedures
- All Signage requests, including donor Signage, must be submitted to the Office of Public Relations for design review and approval to ensure consistency with brand and visual identity standards.
- Donor Signage requests must be coordinated through the Office of Development and Alumni Relations prior to submitting a requisition through Unimarket and vendor engagement. The Office of Development and Alumni Relations must review and approve all donor names, language, and gift designations in accordance with the donor agreement before artwork is finalized.
- Final proofs must receive approval from the Office of Public Relations before fabrication.
- Installation logistics and placement must be coordinated with the Office of Facilities Management through submission of a work order request in the HIPPO CMMS request portal.
VI. Scope
This policy applies to all Signage installed on the NYMC campus and all Signage installed outside the NYMC campus funded by NYMC.
VII. Effective Date
This policy takes effect immediately.
