What Made You Choose NYMC?

New York Medical College offered me an opportunity to apply early and lock in to a great school in the region of the country that I love. I grew up just across the Hudson River in Nyack, New York, and wanted to come back to this area after undergrad. In addition, NYMC has a great reputation for having a vast selection of affiliate hospitals, across numerous cities and environments, where third- and fourth-year students can do their rotations.

What is your current professional role?

I am a solo-practice family doctor in California. I have narrowed the focus of my practice so that today, I provide care for only adults, in the out-patient setting. I have also spent several years as the medical director for adults with disabilities living in board and care facilities in my community. I was awarded top performer for my county's Medicaid program for 2018.

What is your fondest memory during your time at NYMC?

Almost every day after class, a huge group of students would get together and play basketball just outside of Westchester Medical Center. It gave us a chance to tune out from our studies and just play a few games before eating dinner and hitting the books. Another great memory was hanging out as a class after a heavy week of tests. We would go to this rustic eatery around the corner and let down our guard—laughing and joking about things only a medical student would find funny.

What is your best advice for current NYMC medical students preparing for their careers in medicine?

You have the ability to sculpt a practice into the design that suits your personality. You went into medicine with a goal to make a great living while getting great satisfaction from your career. Don't compromise or try to fit into a role someone else wants you to play. Never forget the journey is so much more important than the destination. In the end, if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.
