Match Day 2020

Match Day is an annual rite of passage for U.S. medical school students and other applicants, a day when they learn at which U.S. residency programs they will train for the next three to seven years. The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) announces the Main Residency Match® results for more than 40,084 applicants submitted program choices for 37,256 positions, the most ever offered in the Match. The number of available first-year (PGY-1) positions rose to 34,266, an increase of 2,072 (6.4%) over 2019. The increase in positions was due, in part, to the last migration of osteopathic program positions into the Main Residency Match.

Every year, moments before noon on Match Day, New York Medical College campus is usually packed with a boisterous crowd eagerly waiting to find out where the next graduating class of the NYMC School of Medicine would continue their medical training. This year, due to the COVID-19, NYMC held a virtual Match Day event.  See the notice below.

Dear Members of the Class of 2020:

Unfortunately, due to the expanding COVID-19 outbreak, New York Medical College School of Medicine's Match Day Celebration will be entirely virtual. This is the process to be followed at all Touro medical schools and is being adopted at an increasing number of medical schools in the United States.

NYMC SOM has received permission from the NRMP to release Match letters to our students via your NYMC email at 12:00 pm EST on Friday, March 20, 2020.

We will be hosting the virtual Match Day Event via YouTube Live, beginning at 11:30am on Friday, March 20, 2020.

Please join us to share in this unique event.

Information containing the web link for the celebration will be made available shortly via email and will be posted to the NYMC website.  Please feel free to share the link with your family and friends.

We understand that this is a disappointment and we thank you for your understanding and patience.  We are all committed to protecting the health of our NYMC community during this pandemic.
