A fellowship-trained neuroanesthesiologist and physician educator, Apolonia Abramowicz, M.D., is an attending neuroanesthesiologist at Westchester Medical Center (WMC). As the residency program director at WMC for a decade and vice chair of education, she has overseen the expansion and enhancement of the program, the accreditation of three fellowships, and the training and professional development of over 100 anesthesiology residents.
As medical student specialty advisor, she is proud to have contributed to the successful launch of careers in anesthesiology of some 150 NYMC students.
She holds leadership positions within the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesia and Critical Care. Through December 2027, she will serve as general sessions chair for the Postgraduate Assembly, the second-largest U.S. anesthesiology professional conference.
Her scholarship interests include residency recruitment, tracheal extubation, airway management in spine surgery, anesthesia for endovascular thrombectomy, intraoperative EEG education, and advocacy for patient safety in the office-based setting.
