After completing a research fellowship at Tufts University, Abhay Dhand, M.D., FIDSA, joined Westchester Medical Center as an attending physician in infectious diseases. He started the first Transplant Infectious Diseases Program in Hudson Valley and currently serves as its Director. Dr. Dhand led the expansion of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at WMC from 2014 to 2023.
Dr. Dhand is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America’s national antibiotic resistance committee and is involved in advocacy for legislation requiring increased resources for infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness, and antibiotic stewardship endeavors. He is also the medical director of quality for transplant and co-chairs the Transplant Quality Council at WMC.

Research
Dr. Dhand's research interests include safe expansion of the donor pool for Solid organ transplantation by utilizing increased risk donor, optimal treatment of infections caused by resistant organisms, and prevention of infections in immunocompromised hosts.
