Jin Li, M.D., Ph.D. '01, FAAN, FAANEM is a neurologist at Westchester Medical Center (WMC), where she has served for more than two decades as a clinician, educator, and physician leader. She specializes in neuromuscular medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, and headache medicine and is board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, and headache medicine.
Dr. Li serves as chief of the Neuromuscular Section, director of the Electromyography (EMG) Laboratory, medical director of the Headache Service, and director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Care Center at WMC. She is also associate program director of the Neurology Residency Program, with leadership responsibility for outpatient and continuity education. She previously served for five years as the director of the Neurology Residency Program and has played a longstanding role in graduate medical education and the mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
Throughout her career, Dr. Li has focused on building multidisciplinary clinical programs that integrate specialized neurological care with collaborative expertise. She co-founded Westchester Medical Center Headache Specialists, bringing together specialists from neurology, internal medicine, pain medicine, otolaryngology, dentistry, neurosurgery, and plastic surgery. She has also helped develop a multidisciplinary Peripheral Nerve Center involving neurology, neurosurgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain medicine, and plastic surgery. Her neuromuscular practice encompasses a broad spectrum of disorders, including myasthenia gravis, inflammatory neuropathies, motor neuron and peripheral nerve disorders, and inherited neuromuscular diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy and muscular dystrophy.
Medical education has been a central focus of Dr. Li's career. In addition to her residency leadership at Westchester Medical Center, she has contributed to curriculum development, outpatient neurological education, and competency-based residency training. Internationally, she served as a consultant to the China Medical Board from 2017 to 2022, participated in graduate medical education initiatives at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and contributed to efforts to develop national standards for neurology residency training in China.
Dr. Li is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine and has been active in national and international professional organizations. She served as president of the Association of Chinese American Physicians (ACAP) from 2022 to 2024 and previously served as president of the Chinese American Neurological Association from 2021 to 2023. Through these organizations, she has promoted physician education, professional mentorship, community health, and collaboration among medical professionals in the United States and internationally.
Beyond academic medicine, Dr. Li has maintained a longstanding commitment to community service and Asian American civic engagement. For more than two decades, she has participated in organizing the annual Asian American Heritage Festival in Westchester County and has held leadership roles in community organizations promoting health education, cultural understanding, mentorship, and civic participation.
Dr. Li has been recognized for her contributions to medicine, education, leadership, and community service, including recognition through the American Academy of Neurology's Women Leading in Neurology program, the YWCA Health & Wellness Champion Award, the ACAP Outstanding Service Award, and other professional and community honors.
Across her roles as a neurologist, educator, program builder, mentor, and community leader, Dr. Li's career has been guided by a commitment to advancing neurological care, developing the next generation of physicians, expanding multidisciplinary collaboration, and improving the health of the communities she serves.
