Jared Pisapia, M.D., M.S.T.R., FAAN, is an attending neurosurgeon at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network. Board-certified in both pediatric and adult neurosurgery, he is also the section chief of peripheral nerve surgery at Westchester Medical Center.
Dr. Pisapia has a broad interest in all areas of pediatric neurosurgery with a particular focus on pediatric tumors of the brain and spine, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations, tethered cord syndrome, and arteriovenous malformations. He also treats pediatric and adult patients with peripheral nerve injuries and disorders, including neonatal brachial plexus injury, nerve entrapments, painful neuroma, and peripheral nerve tumors.
Dr. Pisapia’s research interests parallel his clinical interests. He serves as site principal investigator for the Children’s Brain Tumor Network, which is a centralized pediatric brain tumor bank with over 32 contributing institutions worldwide. He is the principal investigator on two randomized controlled clinical trials examining ultrasound-guided delivery of local anesthetic for pain control following Chiari decompression and tethered cord release surgery.
Additional clinical research interests include novel strategies for nerve repair after injury and the application of Connectomics, or brain mapping, to improve the safety of pediatric brain tumors and vascular lesions. Dr. Pisapia has secured grant funding from various sources, including the National Institutes of Health and the Pediatric Hydrocephalus Society. He has published his findings in multiple peer-reviewed publications, such as NeuroOncology and JAMA Pediatrics.
Dr. Pisapia has a strong commitment to education. He serves as the associate program director for the Neurosurgery Residency Program at Westchester Medical Center and director of the Neurosurgery Elective Clerkship and Sub-internship for home and visiting medical students.
