A fellowship-trained head and neck surgical oncologist, Mike Yao, M.D., joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago after completing his fellowship. There, he rose to the rank of associate professor and served as program director of the residency program. He later joined the faculty at Stanford University, where he specialized in the care of patients with melanoma of the head and neck. In 2011, he moved to Westchester County, New York, and practiced at both Westchester Medical Center (WMC) and Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is currently the chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at WMC.

Dr. Yao has expertise in complex thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and head and neck cancer, including cancer of the tongue, floor of mouth, tonsil, larynx, pharynx, hypopharynx, and salivary glands. The team at Westchester Medical Center cares for a high volume of patients with all stages of cancer, including major surgical resections with state-of-the-art reconstruction.

Dr. Yao has over 50 publications and has been invited to lecture nationally and internationally over 120 times. He has been named to the Best Doctors and America’s Top Doctors numerous times.
