General Counsel
The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal counsel, preventative legal guidance and advice, and specialized professional services in the handling of the broad range of legal issues that arise from the activities of the College. These include, among other things,
- advising College officials, senior management, department heads, supervisors and managers on regulatory compliance and other legal aspects arising from the administration and operations of the College,
- representing the College in litigation and before federal, state and local administrative agencies,
- advising on issues involving academic, intellectual property, healthcare, risk management, contracts, environmental, employment, conflict of interest, compliance and tax exemption,
- preparing and negotiating contracts and agreements between the College and other entities,
- representing the College in real estate and other commercial transactions,
- supervising outside counsel who may be retained to assist with specific matters that require particular expertise and
- providing all other professional legal services on all matters pertaining to the practice of law on behalf of the New York Medical College.
The Office of General Counsel is responsible to the Board of Trustees and to the President for the direction and supervision of all legal matters of New York Medical College.
