Biography:

Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., is dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs. He also holds faculty appointments in public health, pediatrics, and environmental health science. Previously Dr. Amler served as regional health administrator, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He was an adviser to the US Surgeon General, and the Administrator of the US EPA, and cochaired the implementation group for a White House interagency task force on children's health and safety. He was agency liaison to the Carter Presidential Center, National Child Heath Insurance Program and the first US Preventive Services Task Force. As chief medical officer at the Centers for Disease Control Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, he coordinated medical monitoring for anthrax response teams, launched a nationwide program to protect children from chemical hazards, established standardized environmental biomarkers, and created a nationwide clinical network (Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units, PEHSU). A practicing physician, Dr. Amler is a graduate of Dartmouth College, New York University, UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service, with residencies at Bellevue and at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt

Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A. received the 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award in the Application of Epidemiologic Information to Child Health Advocacy at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference and Exhibition held in Washington, D.C., October 24-27. He was recognized for his seminal role in pediatric epidemiology and children’s environmental health and outstanding contributions in advocating for children in communities across America and in other parts of the world. 2015-11-24

City & State Reports’ Corporate Social Responsibility Award | PROFESSIONAL
Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the School of Health Sciences and Practice and vice president for government affairs, was honored with a City & State Reports’ Corporate Social Responsibility Award for the health care, hospitals and pharmaceuticals industries. He received the Chairman’s Award at an award ceremony on September 17 at Hunter College highlighting socially responsible leaders across New York industry sectors in partnership with CUNY and Hunter College. 2015-09-17
