Middle States Commission of Higher Education (MSCHE) 2021

Assessing the Present to Position for Our Future

Middle States Commission of Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation is an expression of confidence in an institution’s mission and goals, its performance including a process for assessment and continuous quality improvement and its resources. An institution is accredited when the educational community has verified that its goals are achieved through self-regulation and peer review. The extent to which each educational institution accepts and fulfills the responsibilities inherent in the process of accreditation is a measure of its commitment to striving for and achieving excellence in its endeavors.

Starting in the spring of 2019, New York Medical College (NYMC) initiated the process of creating a self-study in preparation for a site visit in the spring of 2021.

NYMC goals for the MSCHE Self-Study Process include:

  1. Achieve re-accreditation by demonstrating that NYMC meets or exceeds the Middle States Requirements for Affiliation and Standards for Accreditation in a manner consistent with College mission, vision and goals.

  2. Engage in an inclusive, open and evidenced-based self-appraisal process that purposely involves stakeholders across the NYMC community.

  3. Complete an objective and comprehensive review of the quality and effectiveness of academic programs and administrative services throughout the College especially in regard to the changing needs of students, the intra-College community and the community at large.

  4. Document current assessment practices at the course, program, and institutional levels and make recommendations for improvement in using assessment results to improve student outcomes and institutional effectiveness.

  5. Integrate strategic planning and Middle States Self-Study to identify specific opportunities, challenges and recommendations; including an assessment of planning processes in relationship to resource allocation.
