NYMC Welcomes Bess J. Chazhur, M.S., as Chief Development Officer and Executive Director of Alumni Relations
Selected after an extensive search, Ms. Chazhur says she was drawn to this role early into the interview process when she took notice of the Office of Development’s clear student focus.
Bess J. Chazhur, M.S., has been named chief development officer and executive director of alumni relations, bringing extensive development and leadership experience that will drive forward New York Medical College’s (NYMC) fundraising initiatives and alumni engagement. Prior to joining the NYMC community in October, Ms. Chazhur was the senior director of development at Montefiore Medical Center.
Selected after an extensive search, Ms. Chazhur says she was drawn to this role early into the interview process when she took notice of the Office of Development’s clear student focus. “NYMC was all about the students, in its communications, in the way it provided support and offered students every opportunity to succeed,” she explains.
As a seasoned development officer with more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Chazhur says she found herself in development thanks to some sage advice from a mentor. “I began my career as a writer in a development office until a mentor encouraged me to consider doing more frontline fundraising,” she recalls, “I found it immensely satisfying because of the incredible relationships which are built over time,” she explains.
“I really look forward to working with the team to grow our fundraising efforts. I have always believed in inspired giving—building relationships with friends that are committed to the vision of your organization and know unequivocally that their gift will make an impact,” she says.
Ms. Chazhur holds a B.A. from the University at Albany, SUNY, and a M.S. from Iona College.
