I welcome this opportunity to acquaint you with the residency training programs of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, which include New York Medical College-sponored programs at New York Health and Hospitals/Metropolitan in New York City and Saint Joseph's Medical Center, in Yonkers, New York, as well as a residency program at Westchester Medical Center, a major affiliate of New York Medical College.
The Department provides a comprehensive training program comprised of instructional, clinical, and research experiences. An integral part of the program is based at the Behavioral Health Center of the Westchester Medical Center. The Behavioral Health Center is affiliated with several institutions in Westchester County and New York City which provide residency training and undergraduate medical education in psychiatry.
In addition, New York Medical College affords a full complement of continuing medical education programs for practicing psychiatrists.
Clinical challenges that residents may encounter cover a wide range of inpatient and outpatient, adult, adolescent, and child psychiatry services, as well as subspecialty areas including consultation-liaison, geriatrics, emergency and crisis intervention. Research opportunities are available within all of these areas in conjunction with the Behavioral Health Center and our affiliated hospitals.
I want to stress that resident and medical student education is the highest priority of the Department. I look forward to meeting you in the future.
Residents in the WMC Psychiatry Department have completed research projects at the Nathan Kline Institute, one of two psychiatry research institutes in New York State. Residents also have the opportunity to work with faculty from other departments including internal medicine and neuroradiology on research projects.
