The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at New York Medical College offers a range of M.S. and Ph.D. programs for those interested in advancing knowledge in a wide array of biomedical areas. Located on a large, safe and attractive campus in Valhalla, New York, in the lower Hudson Valley, we share faculty with NYMC’s School of Medicine and provide students with exceptional opportunities to do meaningful research as they learn.
Nearly 130 students are enrolled in the Graduate School.
The faculty consists of approximately 97 experienced professionals – all with terminal degrees (99% doctorates) and either primary or secondary appointments in the basic science departments.
The Graduate School offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology and immunology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology.
Master’s degree programs are well-suited for those who seek breadth and depth of knowledge in a field and wish to function at the senior technical or managerial level in biomedical organizations in industry or academia. Our Biomedical Science & Management program allows students to combine scientific core knowledge with a foundation in business or other professional skills and a real-world, project-based internship.
The interdisciplinary basic medical sciences M.S. program is designed to strengthen students’ preparation and credentials for future study in the health professions, such as medicine, dentistry or physician assistants programs. A highly competitive Accelerated iBMS Master’s track within this program allows qualified students to take selected pre-clinical medical school courses and complete the requirements for a Master’s in one year.
The Integrated Ph.D. program, launched in 2005, focuses on core scientific knowledge and the interrelatedness of basic medical science disciplines. The curriculum provides students with an opportunity to rotate through three different laboratories before declaring an area of specialization.
Motivated and qualified students from the School of Medicine can pursue the dual M.D./Ph.D. degree program in any of our six basic medical science disciplines.
