The Stem Cell Laboratory, located on the 3rd floor of the Vosburgh Pavilion, is the first component of the newly established New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center Translational Stem Cell Center.
Funding for initiating this center was obtained from a New York State Stem Cell Science (NYSTEM) institutional development grant awarded to Dr. Thomas H. Hintze, Professor and at the time, Chair of the Department of Physiology. The initial emphasis of the Translational Stem Cell Center will be on stem cell biology relevant to the cardiovascular system. The co-directors of the Stem Cell Laboratory are Drs. Carol A. Eisenberg and Leonard M. Eisenberg, whose National Institutes of Health funded research programs focus on cardiac development, stem cells population present in the adult heart, and the cardiac potential of bone marrow-derived stem cells. In addition, the Stem Cell Laboratory will provide expertise and resources for NYMC scientists studying adult stem cell biology.
