Cell Biology

The Department offers Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in the areas of Cell Biology and Neuroscience.  Faculty in the department are responsible for the teaching of gross anatomy, embryology, histology, cell biology, developmental biology and neuroscience in the NYMC School of Medicine, the NYMC Graduate School of Basic Medical Sciences, the NYMC School of Health Sciences and Practice and the Touro College of Dental Medicine. 

Ongoing neuroscience and cell biology research includes synaptic plasticity, learning and memory, head trauma, spinal cord injury, intraventricular hemorrhage, epilepsy, schizophrenia, autism, breast cancer, neurofibromatosis, retinal development, glaucoma, pulmonary hypertension, limb development, evolution, apoptosis, cytokines, membrane trafficking, signaling and protein turnover. 

These studies employ state-of-the art techniques including stem cells, confocal, 2-photon and electron microscopy, electrophysiology and various molecular and genetic techniques.
