Professional Interests:

Catherine Curtis, PT, EdD is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy. Dr. Curtis received her physical therapy degree from Ithaca College in New York. She completed her MA and EdD in Motor Learning from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her clinical area of interest is in adult neurology and she has worked at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, NY and New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. Her primary teaching responsibilities include adult neurology, biomechanics of human gait and motor learning. As part of her academic role at the university, Dr. Curtis developed a distance-based course on human genomics to help students appreciate how genetic factors affect physical therapy practice.

Her research has focused on the effects of exercise in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and visuospatial processes implicated in planning reaching movements. She has received awards from the Neurology Section and the Education Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) for her writing. Dr. Curtis along with Dr. Allon Goldberg and Dr. Steven Wolf have co-authored a chapter entitled “Genetics” published in 4th ed of The Rehabilitation Specialist’s Handbook. Dr. Curtis is as a member of an APTA sponsored work group on physical therapy education in genomics. She is also a member of the Neurology Section of the APTA, and has served on the Nominating Committee for the Degenerative Diseases Special Interest Group of the APTA.
