Abhay Dhand, M.D., FIDSA

After completing a research fellowship in Tufts University, Abhay Dhand, M.D., FIDSA, worked as an attending physician at Westchester Medical Center. He started the first Transplant Infectious Diseases program in Hudson Valley and currently serves as its Director. Dr. Dhand led the expansion of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at WMC from 2014 to 2023. 

Dr. Dhand is a member of Infectious Disease Society of America’s national antibiotic resistance committee and is involved in advocacy for legislations requiring increased resources for infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness and antibiotic stewardship endeavors. He is also the Medical Director of Quality for Transplant and Co-chairs the Transplant Quality Council at WMC.

Research

Dr. Dhand's research interests include safe expansion of the donor pool for Solid organ transplantation by utilizing increased risk donor, optimal treatment of infections caused by resistant organisms, and prevention of infections in immunocompromised hosts.
